The Raspberry Pi, the battery, the projector — none of it matters if the library is poorly organized or missing what the community actually needs. The content is the ministry payload. Everything else is just delivery infrastructure.
What goes in the library
A well-built library is organized around how people actually use it in the field — not by file type, but by purpose. The goal is that anyone with a phone can find something useful in under a minute.
- Scripture — full Bible text in the local language, formatted for phone screens and readable without an app
- Audio Scripture — recorded Bible readings for communities where audio is more accessible than text
- Gospel films — the JESUS Film, short evangelism videos, and locally relevant media ready to play or project
- Children's resources — illustrated stories, audio programs, and videos appropriate for children's lessons and family use
- Discipleship materials — follow-up studies, devotional guides, and teaching resources for local church leaders
- Training PDFs — setup guides, transfer instructions, and field FAQ handouts that double as kit documentation
Building a library that actually works in the field
- Start with language
Identify the local language, reading level, and whether audio is more useful than text for this community. A library in the wrong language is useless.
- Choose core resources first
Prioritize Scripture, audio Bible, one gospel film, and children's content before adding anything else. These are the files that get used most.
- Organize by use, not by type
Use simple top-level folders: Read, Listen, Watch, Children, Training, and Share. People should be able to find what they want by browsing, not by searching.
- Test on the actual phones
Open every file type on the kinds of phones people in this community carry. A PDF that won't open on an older Android isn't a resource — it's a dead file.
- Remove anything broken or confusing
Delete duplicate, broken, or unclear files before deployment. A cluttered library is worse than a small one — it makes people give up looking.
- Document what's inside
Keep a simple record of which resources are in each kit version so partners and local leaders know what changed and what to expect.
The content library is the actual ministry payload. The best library is simple, local-language first, and completely usable offline.
